STEM Learning
"WESM is a great choice if parents want a family-focused school with a strong STEM program. My kids have had a lot of hands-on learning and the school has provided so much variety in both science and math activities." - 1st-grade Parent
A RICH ACADEMIC EXPERIENCE FOR ALL STUDENTS
STEM is a way for students to know and understand their world using a hands-on, investigative approach to teaching and learning. A STEM-focused standards-based curriculum engages students with challenging learning experiences that connect them to the real world.
WHAT MAKES OUR SCHOOL UNIQUE?
- STEM is an innovative instructional approach that infuses Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math across the curriculum as students learn to inquire and apply knowledge through Project-based Learning.
- Washington students:
- Build robots that collect and sort trash.
- Construct designs to solve environmental challenges, such as ways to filter polluted water.
- Conduct fieldwork in Los Angeles County's local natural areas, such as the Peck Road Water Conservation Park.
- Participate in hands-on environmental studies lessons within their classrooms and in each of our specialized spaces, including the STEM lab, technology innovation lab, imagination workshop, and outdoor garden classrooms.
